History
In the co-founders’ words: We initially thought of building a new space in order to better protect and to better view the works that had been accumulating for years in the basement of our country house. We also imagined an exhibition space to show them, to bring them to life, to share them. But that seemed rather limited. We wanted to make a broader social gesture, to engage in a participatory process.
We sought the advice of various artists and experts. Our discussions were very productive. Perhaps too productive. And so, while remaining attached to our concerns as collectors, we have embarked on a multifaceted adventure. Based on the relationship between visual arts and the environment - an issue we have felt strongly about for many years - we decided to create residencies for artists and researchers, to encourage a coming together of the two, to make use of new technologies to present and promote their work, and to develop an educational project that aims to raise young people’s awareness of these issues by means of the visual arts.
After several months of reflection, two years of architectural design and two years of construction, we are feeling confident today. We firmly believe in the values that the Foundation promotes and in the multiplying effect of its commitment to artists, researchers, the public in general and young people in particular.
